2025–2026 Chapter Highlights

The United Okoyong Past Student Association (UOPSA) USA – Houston Queens is a sisterhood committed to supporting our alma mater, Queen of the Rosary College (QRC), Okoyong–Mamfe, Cameroon, preserving our heritage, and serving our community.

Guided by our motto, “Unity • Growth • Sisterhood • Inspiring Future Queens,” we support our alma mater, care for one another, and strive to make a lasting impact in our community.

With 30 members, Houston Queens has made meaningful strides in strengthening unity, rebuilding its public image, and channeling collective energy toward positive initiatives. Our progress earned us the 2025 Most Improved Chapter Award and the 2026 Membership Champion Award.

Impact at Our Alma Mater

Our landmark achievement is our first-ever QRC project: a $17,000 solar-powered lighting initiative, comprising 33 streetlights, 23 floodlights, 50 poles, and a 6 kVA solar system powered by 16 solar panels. The Bishop approved the sample lamps, and completion is anticipated in early November 2026.

At the 2026 UOPSA Convention, Houston Queens also pledged $10,000 toward the national 16-classroom academic block. We proudly recognize Angel Mbah, daughter of a Houston Queen, for donating 20 bedsheets to the QRC sickbay—Her generosity reflects the inspiring values of service and compassion we hope to pass on to the next generation.

On May 9, 2026, we hosted our first-ever Mother’s Day fundraising gala, and the City of Houston proclaimed the date UOPSA Houston Queens Day. We also launched our new chapter uniform in a distinctive church ceremony, where a priest blessed the uniforms, alongside our chapter T-shirts—celebrating our faith, identity, and unity.

Faith, Service, and Sisterhood

In 2025, Houston Queens donated $2,000 to St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Houston, and was honored with a dedicated window in the church’s sanctuary. On October 11, 2026, members celebrated QRC’s school feast day with a Mass of thanksgiving as the college marked its 70th anniversary—Platinum Jubilee.

Our welfare initiative, Love in Action – Queens for Mommy Teh, raised $5,000 in support of our sister. We celebrated her 80th birthday on October 10, 2026, and presented gifts, including a personalized rosary.

Our sisterhood also stood with members through bereavement and difficult times, organized a diaper drive, and visited a Queen whose father is unwell. We celebrate each Queen’s birthday individually and recognize Queens born each quarter during our quarterly physical meetings, ensuring that every member feels valued and appreciated.

Our community service includes food bank volunteering and support for the Our Lady of Lourdes Ex-Students Association, Houston, during its 25th anniversary. We participated in their breast cancer awareness walk and donated $1,000 during their gala. We are also planning an April 2027 free community BBQ with SOBA Houston to strengthen fellowship and community partnerships.

Queens Who Shine and Cultural Pride

We celebrate our Queens’ academic achievements, graduations, and personal milestones. We are especially proud of Queen Rosette Wonganya, a breast cancer survivor and author of Tides of Loss & Light — A Story of Faith, Survival, and Renewal. Learn more at rosywong.com.

At the 2026 UOPSA Ohio Convention, Houston Queens presented “Echoes of Okoyong,” a dramatic spoken-word performance celebrating our heritage. The presentation is expected to be featured in the UOPSA USA national newsletter.

Looking Ahead

Our immediate priority is completing the solar project and developing sustainable annual initiatives for QRC. Through regular monthly virtual meetings, quarterly physical gatherings, community partnerships, and continued welfare activities, we remain committed to accountability, service, and meaningful progress.

Houston Queens is moving forward—united in purpose, celebrating every Queen, inspiring the next generation, and turning sisterhood into action.
