Fence & Solar Project

Mrs. Linda Yakum Andoseh

UOPSA National President 2018-2023

It was my pleasure to serve during one of the most challenging periods for both UOPSA and QRC, when events in QRC were defined by political insecurity in the region, while those in UOPSA were defined by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic resulting in my serving 5 years. UOPSA grew by 3 chapters during this period; Minnesota, West coast and Ohio.   I had previously held the positions of National VP (2016-2018) and Dallas chapter President (2015-2018) under UOPSA as well as DC chapter president and National VP under OPSA USA. During my time in office, I was also fortunate to work with 2 different proprietors of QRC, then Bishop Andrew Nkea and later, Bishop Aloysius Fondong.

Projects undertaken by UOPSA during this period were a response to events related to the aforementioned political insecurity at the time.

“Solar Project” 2019. Project cost $30,000

First project. Inspired by security concerns. Installation of solar powered street lamps on campus and solar panels on buildings to power lighting and to keep the campus lit at night.

“keep QRC open” 2020 and 2021. project cost approx. $20,000/year.

Enrollment had fallen to a record low due to the security situation. Inspired by the need to prevent school closure due to record low enrollment, UOPSA covered salaries for all QRC teachers for these 2 years.

“Fence Project” Initiated 2022. Cost $150,000

In response to the events of the night of Feb 10th 2022, Inspired by the need to keep the students and staff of QRC safe after the unfortunate events of Feb 2022 when political operators burned down dormitories on campus. Immediate response was for UOPSA to replace all student mattresses and pillows.  Goal was to secure the campus and make it harder for bad operators to have access, as well as encourage an increase in student enrollment and staff retention as a result of the increased security.

Many thanks to all UOPSA members, donors, and especially my EXCO members: Cynthia Obichi, Ruth Vinga, Relindis Atemkeng, Lesley Chungong, Rita Nkea, Eveline Nkea, Dorothy Nanga, Delphine Manyigang, Felicite Meande, Pamela Kigham, Nicoline Idem, Hedrine Tamajong.
